I’ve heard a couple sneak listens and it is delicious.  It has sparks of Mazzy Star, coupled with all the wonderful hallmarks that make Havrilla an original gem of a singer/songwriter.  There are moments of rocking guitar and many with a haunting air about them on this new album, different than the acoustic sounds we’ve become accustomed to in her previous work.

She strikes the perfect balance in Gypsy Fuzz. Have a listen.

I wanted to let you all know about an amazing new album that’s hitting the streets on September 20th.  My friend Bonnie Ste-Croix’s latest album Canadian Girl!  I’ve had a sneak listen and LOVE it.  The cool thing about this album (although all her music kicks major ass, check her out on iTunes), is that it was a cross-country recording project that took more than a year to capture. Bonnie traveled to every Canadian province and recorded with some of Canada’s finest folk/roots artists.

She’s touring this fall!  7 provinces and 35 shows!

It’s all for a fantastic cause: to raise money for CF and awareness about being an organ donor. (To sign up for organ donation in BC. To sign up in the US. I’m a donor and perhaps you should be, too?  We could save lives!)   The whole event is also in honor of Eva Markvoort (in photo below), who lost her battle with CF.  A inspiring and acclaimed documentary was made about her fight called 65_red_roses. It’s playing on Oprah’s new network and Eva’s from the Vancouver area.  She had an incredible soul!  You can watch the doc online here (you might have to be in Canada).

I’ll be reffing from 2-6pm PST.  If you peek in on the game, I’ll be one skating slow and a bit sporadic (I grew up in Arizona for christsakes).  I may also be on my ass a time or two.

I am taking a great 10-day seminar on the Art + Craft of Directing (more on that soon) and in my studies I came across this excerpt about how to find, develop and live your life with passion.  It is one of the best things I’ve read in awhile and think it should  be required reading for everyone.  Young and old.  It’s never too late to be what you might have been and it’s never too late to be completely fulfilled in life if you’re off track.  The power lies within you.

The lowdown:

Forty determined Vancouver, BC women will storm the ice this August in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Game of Ice Hockey.

The puck drops on August 26, at the Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby rinks, and the women will play one continuous game for 10 consecutive days, to raise funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

There are LOTS of ways you can get involved in the kick off party and the hockey tournament, whether you’re in Vancouver, BC or across the globe.

Here are some of them:

- sponsor a player

- donate water, snacks

- donate cash to offset costs

- donate cash/items for the silent auction

- volunteer!

This event is inspired by and in memory of women who’ve lost their lives to CF.  One in particular I’ve blogged about before: Eva Markvoort.  An amazing award-winning documentary was created about her battle. It’s called 65_redroses and follows Eva’s battle with CF.  You can WATCH IT HERE.

Check out their website today and get involved!  Many of the players are fellow lezbots, so you sisters pay extra notice.

I found this poem below while cleaning out old college files this weekend.

Beyond being inspired by it once again, I was delighted when something dawned on me: I really took this advice to heart years ago and have been tapping my foot to its beat ever since.

Back then, my mom used to leave these messages from the universe on my bed, so I’m sure this came from her. Thanks mom! I love you. You and Dad have really made me who I am today.

Hope it inspires!
